The first Gallery Maeght was open in 1936 in Cannes, then another one was inaugurated in Paris in 1946.
The most important international artists will be exposed, French ones like : Braque, Matisse or Leger, Spanish ones as: Miro, Tapies and Chillida, Russian as: Chagall and Kandinsky, Americans like Kelly or Calder and Swiss as Giacometti, but also artists from all Europe and Asia like : Bram Van Velde, Ubac, Tal-Coat, Bazaine, Riopelle, Alechinsky, Rebeyrolle, Adami, Monory, Ting.
Maeght today is not only a Museum in the South of France but also a Gallery in Paris and one in Barcelona.
The Maeght Gallery is now run by Isabelle Maeght.
The expositions give the possibility to visitors and clients to find works of art, paintings, sculptures or photographs of historical artists and to discover the works of new talents as : Gérard Gasiorowski, Marco Del Re, Selma Gurbuz, Aki Kuroda, Manolo Valdes, Oh Sufan, Ernst Scheidegger.
Yoyo Maeght, in charge of the development and the communication between the Maeght companies, is the manager of Maeght Editeur that publishes many books, riproduction, prints and etchings.
Initially Maeght opened a printing house situated near Montparnasse in Paris that immediately became publisher of books and etchings.
Today, the tradition is kept by Jules Maeght who welcomes the artists that want to create their works; all the printing techniques from the traditional ones to the more modern ones are available for every artist in the workshop : lithographies, etchings, or etchings with carborundum, wood engraving, line-engraving, steel engraving, digital litography process... The edition of each etching is limited to ten copies, each of them signed and numbered by the artists.
With 12.000 title published, Maeght Editeur is known as the most important printer of lithographs and etchings in the world.
Man of genius, Aimé Maeght, 1906-1981, was all at once art dealer, publisher, filmaker and collector. Followed by his son Adrien, Aimé has not only trasformed the profession of the art dealer in a status symbol but thanks to his passion he has developed his activities of collector and patron of the contemporary arts creating in 1964 at San Paul De Vence the Fondation of Marguerite and Aimé Maeght .
The Fondatioin is the first private museum built in France for Contemporary Art, but also the first place created with the collaboration of many artists. Almost 200.000 people visit every year the Fondation and the famous garden with the sculptures of Miro, Giacometti, Calder, Braque, Chagall and Leger. Brilliant expositions with an important international impact are presented every year. The amount of the private collection of the Fondation consists of 10.000 works of art including 50 sculptures of Giacometti, 150 sculptures of Miro and the biggest paintings created by Chagall.
