Time appears to have come to a standstill in the Museo Cerralbo. A mansion-museum, historic house and period museum, it is a must for anyone interested in learning about the way of life of the Madrid aristocracy in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
As a museum originating from a personal collection, it reflects 19th-century artistic and decorative taste through the works of art and everyday objects that remain in their original rooms and convey the feeling and charm of a house that is lived in.
The Museo Cerralbo as it is today was designed with two purposes in mind: as a residence and as a museum to house the collections amassed by the Marquis and Marquise of Cerralbo and their children on their extensive travels throughout Spain and Europe between 1869 and 1900.
